Designers take on Alice

Seems like a certain Alice who lives in Wonderland is taking the fashion world by storm! Designers like Ann Demeulemeester, Alexander McQueen, Bernhard Willhelm, Charles Anastase, Christopher Kane, Chloé, Haider Ackermann, Manish Arora, Maison Martin Margiela including Nicholas Kirkwood designed for Paris' Printemps Alice in Wonderland Exhibition. Style.com takes a tour through the exhibit :

“I think my favorite Alice character is the March Hare. You can see I’ve made his watch rather prominent. This was a different design process for me, because I’m not usually so applicative—typically, I’m thinking about line, silhouette. But this time, I figured, why not just pile as much as I can on top?” —Nicholas Kirkwood

“I went to John Tenniel’s original illustration of Alice for inspiration. She’s seated at a table having tea, and her dress looks much more asymmetrical and theatrical than that boring Walt Disney version. It was also an auto-reference to my collections, as Lewis Carroll’s work has been one of the main inspirations of my label since its creation. Alice Liddell, the real little girl with long dark hair who inspired Carroll, is one of the very few icons that I have. The pictures of her are a constant inspiration for me.” —Charles Anastase

“I’ve always been intrigued by cutout silhouettes. They are so intriguing, so poetic—the shadow of a soul. They tell everything about a character and they are open to be filled with one’s own imagination.” —Ann Demeulemeester

“My favorite character is the Duchess, who at first seems nearly as unpleasant as the Queen of Hearts. But she’s the antagonist of the queen, and at the end was only respectful and friendly, despite her tremendous ugliness. When I was designing this piece, I was seeing Alice running, escaping through the forest destroying her shiny dress.” —Haider Ackermann

“Alice’s silhouette is a blue upside-down dress with cage sleeve, as if she walked through the mirror and her dress completely reversed. A long ball gown has been reworked, upside-down, into a minidress. The bustier in taffetas becomes a pleated miniskirt. The petticoat in plonge becomes an asymmetrical draped top. The skirt in ‘plumetis’ tulle becomes a veil. A cage sleeve of whale-boned velvet ribbon is embroidered with pearls, crystals, and recycled jewels.” —Maison Martin Margiela

“Running around careless and free in a romantic dress, falling down the rabbit hole, chasing time in a dreamlike state of mind, meeting unexpected characters with many tales to tell—sounds like many a girl’s night out!” —Chloé design team

Absolutely in love with Charles Anastase's dress as well as Maison Martin Margiela's. How could we miss Nicholas Kirkwood's heel. Its such a beautiful piece of art on its own. Are you excited about Alice in Wonderland? Cause I am way excited! More news of Alice in Wonderland to come!

The film, directed by Tim Burton (Batman, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd etc..) is scheduled for released on March 5, 2010. The exhibition is held from February 1 to March 13. Definitely not one to miss!

Runway : Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture 2010

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Jean Paul Gaultier.
Weaves, cut outs, feathers, cigars, denim, armor details. Nothing forgetting drama.
Truly couture compared to Valentino. The collection reminds me of being in art class and how my teacher would teach me how to do cut-outs and weaves. Definitely no lack of creativity. Like what others says, Jean Paul doesn't disappoints.

The pieces are strong, elegant, classy, modern, chic.. and everything you could name.
I'm ready to be Jean Paul's Pirate.

GaGa-esque outfits. A little McQueen feel.. Genius.

2NE1 x FILA 2010 Collection

2NE1 continues to endorse in brand, FILA. This time, they released official photos for FILA's 2010 Collection. I love the girls but I've got to say that the photos looked really really tacky. As a consumer, I'll probably not buy the product if I don't fancy 2NE1. Campaigns helps advertise/promote a product a lot. If you're like me, living away from Seoul, Korea.. unable to see the products first-hand, would you get it?

Check out their previous FILA Campaign photos here : A and B

Actress Han Hyo Joo (한효주) along with powerful boy group, 2AM poses for Jambangee Spring 2010 Campaign. I have the say the guys look look but.. uhm, Seulong looks a little weird. Probably because of his height/pose. Anyhow, they all look good together! Who would have thought there would be a "2AM x Han Hyo Joo" photoshoot? Check out the official images :

Saturdary, February 13 - Lacoste
Actress Han Hyo Joo was in the tents last season, she might be invited again.

Sunday, February 14 - Diane von Furstenberg
If you have been following, at least 7 K-celebrities have worn DvF.

Wednesday, February 17 - Tory Burch
K-celebrities were seen in Tory Burch's clothings before and the Wondergirls also attended her show last season in New York.

Wednesday, February 17 - 3.1 Phillip Lim
Having opened its first flagship store in Seoul last year and a fashion show in Korea, its not surprising to see K-celebrities wearing 3.1 Phillip Lim. Eg, 2NE1's CL or Han Chae Young?

Runway : Valentino Haute Couture 2010

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Among the rest of the Haute Couture 2010 collections, Valentino is one of my favorites! Many people have voiced out that its SO NOT VALENTINO/VALENTINO IS DEAD.. or others (like me) will say, BREAK THE TRADITION AND I LOVE IT. But hmm, Haute Couture?.. more like a Ready-To-Wear colletion. Also adopting the "draping" trend, like Rodarte and Burberry. A few of the models also looked "Avatar-ish" for their make-up, interesting!

Weirdly loving how those Blazers/outerwear are designed (Balenciaga much). Doesn't the pink one in the middle remind you of your childhood favorite character (for some)?.. Pink Power Rangers anyone?

Some of my favorite pieces.. I love the red one, its so GaGa-esque too, like the one she met to meet the Queen of England. Far left.. Chloe Sevigny in Valentino for Golden Globes?

Ribbon Veils/Mask, Bats were also seen in the collection.. I dislike them.

I absolutely adore the heels! But.. here's a break down of what I felt it looked like :

It'll probably work once.. (or never to some), but I'm hoping for Valentino to bring back its roots for RTW in about 3-5 weeks time. Obvious lack of red.

Would love to read your comments on the collection!

Runway : Givenchy Haute Couture 2010

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is my favorite look at Givenchy Haute Couture 2010. There's so much to describe the dress, its fabulous! And thats an understatement. I love the color palette. I'm not a huge fan of ruffles or tulles, I simply love the look and that the tube top was embellished. There would be a huge different without the embellishments and high slit.

Feathers, heavily embellished outfits, ruffles, sheer, lace were seen throughout the collection.

Barbie x CFDA

Alexis Bittar, Justin Guinta, Tory Burch

The dolls of Mattel are going for makeovers again!
Partnering with CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) to create customized dolls which would be auctioned off eBay starting on Thursday, February 7th with a starting bid of $100. Proceeds from the auction will benefit CFDA's educational initiatives and scholarship program.

A total of 12 designers would be participating. Namely Albertus Swanepoel, Alexis Bittar, Betsey Johnson, Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade, Devi Kroell, Isaac Mizrahi, Justin Giuta of Subversive Jewelry, Lorraine Schwartz, Monica Botkier, Philip Crangi, Rachel Roy and lastly, Tory Burch.
"I made her bright pink shoes with silver studs like my spring shoes," Roy told StyleList. "I took fabric from my spring collection and made a mixed media dress. The mixed media dresses are the ones Michelle Obama wears from me."

Adding, "I even had my intern do her hair, because I just couldn't stop. It was really a lot of fun."

"When Barbie was done, I took her to my patternmaker and asked her to duplicate the dress for the fall collection," she explained. "It's not working as a dress, but it is working as a shirt. Barbie inspired a piece in my fall collection." - Rachel Roy

"Each designer expressed his or her individual style by transforming their original Barbie Basics doll into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece," said Stephanie Cota, senior vice president of marketing for Barbie. "The use of unique materials, special fabrics and, in one case, real diamonds, demonstrate how to infuse one’s own style and personality by accessorizing."

Steven Kolb, executive director of the CFDA, added: "Because accessories are such a big element to the little black dress, this was a nice opportunity to put our accessories designers front and center."

Who wore Diane von Furstenberg better?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Jumping onto the Diane von Furstenberg bandwagon, Actress Lee Yoon Ji (이윤지) attends upcoming MBC Drama "Dandelion Family" press conference on January 20, 2010. Actress Lee wore a jumper from Diane von Furstenberg Resort 2010 Collection, which makes her the 7th Korean Actress to wear Belgian-American Diane von Furstenberg's line. She completes her looks with a thick belt along the waist.

Actress/Host Kim Jung Eun (김정은) also wore it to one episode of her show, Kim Jung Eun's Chocolate. Compared to Lee Yoon Ji, Host Kim opted for a necklace and waist belt with a huge flower attached to it.

Who wore it better?
I'm torn between both. I prefer Lee Yoon Ji's look without the necklace but I prefer Kim Jung Eun's choice of belt. What are your thoughts, do leave comments!
